Planning For Your Interior Design Success
Usually, I do my major “spring cleaning” of the entire house over the Christmas to New Year’s holidays, but this year, I started before Thanksgiving. This is always cathartic for me, but annoying and crazy-making for my husband and team. After I’ve completed my annual ritual, I’m more relaxed and energized because all of the junk is moved out and it seems to clear my head space as well.
You’ve probably heard the saying that “when mama is happy, everyone is happy.” Although my “kids” are furry and the “mama” tag doesn’t really apply, the concept does.
Why am I telling you this story? Because it relates to preparing your mindset for change. You have a few weeks left of the year, and as the holidays approach, if you can clean out your files and make some lists to prepare for 2009, you can then relax and enjoy your family and friends knowing that you are ready to start fresh.
We still have a few design clients that are on hiatus right now, so it is giving us time to set up our systems, files and plans for Design Success University which is an entirely different business model. Our clients know we will be available for them, but on a very limited basis. We aren’t taking any new clients in the future because our focus will be on developing an educational experience for you that you can’t get anywhere else.
Since the Interior Design Summit, Erin and I have also been busy planning and planning and planning. The last few weeks have been exceptionally intense because we have many big events and tasks to accomplish much like you have as an interior designer.
In fact, we have spent many days at a close friend’s conference room with a huge white board away from telephones and email. It has been life-changing as my friend promised. We now have a clear vision for DSU, and we will continue to fill in the details of the plan during the next few weeks.
We’re getting ready for a busy year of incredible educational opportunities for you and we are excited to tell you about them as they unfold. Our mission is to create highly relevant programs that you can use immediately to grow your business. Since we’ve been in the field for years, we truly understand your challenges and want to help you with creative solutions and support. We want to over-deliver and create a community of raving fans, so if you want to share how we can create that experience for you, please let us know.
We also used my friend’s conference room to have our first in-person meeting this past weekend with Nika Stewart, CEO of Wealthy Decorators and my Interior Design Summit 2008 partner. We spent three days intense planning sessions to prepare for the March 3rd & 4th, 2009 event. Our goal is to make it even better than the last one. We had a great time with Nika, and we look forward to many years and many events together.
So, after spending the last few weeks working on our business, we are excited, energized and enthusiastic about next year. We highly recommend doing something similar for your own business…you’ll love the feeling of accomplishment.
Erin, Mary and I all have plans with our families during the holidays. My sister is coming over from England with her beaux for 10 days – I have only seen her once in ten years, so this will be a special time for us. We also have a short trip planned to Las Vegas for New Years. Our good friends and neighbors moved there two years ago, so we always look forward to spending time with them.
We will be sharing more ideas about planning in the next few weeks…
