I would like your opinion on where to start with a new client who doesn't want to spend a lot of money and wants to keep the majority of her things. (mostly update ). what are the trends that you see popular that may make a difference in the overall appearance of a room. Thank you. Kathleen
  • Since I don't know her budget, I'd probably suggest simple updates and perhaps repainting and adding some new accessories to the space. You might go to your local bookstore and browse through a few of the latest magazines to see what colors are interesting, and develop a palette from there. If she has a little more money, slip-covering or a new rug could really make a difference, too. Have you thought about using furniture and artwork from different rooms? Just rearranging furniture and decorative items can make a huge impact. Hope that helps!

Gail, What would you suggest to be the first step or ideas that could help
transform a room. I know that paint is the easiest and least expensive but
in terms of really making a statement with different furniture. One thing I
would suggest it to replace a loveseat with 2 chairs. Different updated
fabrics and a new look then just a matchy matchy look. Any other
    suggestions? Kathleen
  • Slip covers, new accessories/pillows, re-styling with items from other rooms, changing the furniture plan...those would be a few suggestions. Lighting can make a huge difference, too. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply. I also agree. Sincerely, Kathleen
  • Love this idea - I will certainly go out and purchase this journal. Thanks as always for sharing.
  • Enjoy! It is very helpful.
