The Power of a Mastermind Group
I’ve been in mastermind groups for the last 10 years, and each one has been interesting and helpful in incredible ways. Erin and I have been in a new group since January, and although a few people left the group and we added two new people, the revised group is stronger and more dynamic than the original one.
Why are mastermind groups so valuable? Andrew Carnegie, for one, attributed masterminds as being the most important principle of his life. As Napoleon Hill said in his classic book, Think and Grow Rich, “the greatest teacher ever to walk the face of this globe, Jesus of Nazareth, selected 12 apostles. If Jesus felt the need for such a mastermind group, the rest of us must certainly have the same need.”
Our mastermind group has experience in Internet marketing, and they also have special skills in writing, technology, problem-solving and they are supportive and encouraging. When we’ve experienced some of our greatest challenges, our mastermind group members have pitched in, reviewed our products, written copy and they’ve recommended resources.
Our friends have even taken their personal time to help us create graphics and research tools for us. They have saved us months if not years of time with their valuable knowledge. We don’t have to learn everything the hard way – we can ask our friends to share their expertise with us.
Since we are each limited in experience, knowledge, education and energy, it is critical that we surround our selves with a group of individuals that can exponentially grow the intelligence and power of everyone in the group.
Who else uses the power of a mastermind? Our president has a cabinet of highly skilled and intelligent people to advise him, our court system uses a jury of peers as do our legislative bodies. Every public corporation has a board of directors and most private ones do as well.
If you talk to many successful people, you will find some common themes in their success:
- They have a mastermind, advisory or board of directors group
- They have coaches for various areas in which they want to improve
- They continue their education especially after they complete their formal schooling
- They read, think and plan frequently
- They have written goals and objectives
- They have accountability partners – a spouse, trusted advisor or a friend
- They focus on results and not action
- They measure their results frequently
If you’re working in a small firm, and especially if you work solo, a mastermind group can save you thousands of dollars in mistakes, support you when you’re stressed or need help with a particular challenge, and it can shortcut your learning process. We’ve heard many of you say that one of the most difficult parts of this business is feeling alone and unsupported.
These are challenging times, and as a tribe or group, we can solve some of our biggest business challenges more easily and with less psychic cost by getting advice from our peers.
We’ve had several people ask us about creating a mastermind group program, and we will be announcing one shortly. We can’t wait to get these started because we know and value the power of the mastermind. Watch your emails and eZines for the announcement of our enrollment.
There will be a group kick-off session once you’re enrolled plus 12 weeks for each group of 4 – 6 members from non-competing markets. You’ll receive support from us, and we’ll have some fun, too. We’ll keep you posted on the details.
