Consumers Trust Online Opinions More Than Interior Designers?
Adweek just published a post about Nielsen Global’s Online Consumer Survey. They surveyed 25,000 Internet consumers from 50 countries, so the statistics are extremely relevant and important for you to understand for your own business.
Here’s the degree of trust that consumers have in the following forms of advertising (April 2009):
- 90% Recommendations from people they know
- 70% Consumer opinions posted online
- 70% Brand websites (my comment – could also be a blog)
- 69% Editorial content (e.g. newspaper article)
- 64% Brand sponsorships
- 62% TV
- 61% Newspaper
- 59% Magazines
- 55% Billboards/outdoor advertising
- 55% Radio
- 54% Emails signed up for
- 52% Ads before movies
- 41% Search engine results ad
- 37% Online video ads
- 33% Online banner ads
- 24% Text ads on mobile phones
So, what does this mean for you? If you focus on getting client testimonials, getting magazine or newspaper articles written about you and you have an online presence, you’re doing the right marketing.
Focus on what your clients and prospects believe to be true, and the battle is half-won. Trust is the key ingredient in sales.
Please comment…would love to hear your thoughts, and just remember, your comments link back to your site and help you get search engine juice!
