Interior Design Business Success In A Slow Economy
This is one of the most challenging times I’ve ever seen in our industry, and I’ve been around it for 32 years. Many designers are closing their doors and downsizing…some after 20 or 30 years of business.
We know this first hand. When we send emails, the number of bounces is increasing and we don’t want you to be one of the statistics.
Is it possible to be successful in your interior design business in a slow economy? Absolutely.
Some of your competitors are busy right now. They may not be overbooked as they were before, but they are doing well, and some are even making as much as $300,000 a year according to the early results of our survey. Some of them have revenues up to $5,000,000. Some have staffs up to 10 people. And, one third of the surveyed group expects their sales to increase this year!
What are they doing? We’ll share if you’ll share.
If you haven’t taken the survey and want to learn about the results, here’s the link to participate – we need your data, too. When you complete the Interior Design Fee and Salary Survey, we’ll also send you an MP3 recording of “5 Laws of Stratospheric Success” with Bob Burg – author of The Go Giver ($47 value). We’re extending the deadline for submitting the information for the survey to September 8th.
So, what are a few of the reasons your competitors are busy when you’re not?
- Their businesses are diversified – they don’t rely on one market segment
- They have marketing and sales skills that are above average and they work on their businesses consistently
- They are serving a more affluent clientele that is willing to spend money
- They are willing to do whatever it takes to stay busy
- They are focusing on what is selling now – bathroom renovations, window treatments, staging, color consultations, etc.
- They aren’t relying on referrals, and even though this is a part of their marketing strategy, they are working consistently to get leads from their network and from their current and past clients
- They are offering products and services that don’t rely on just selling their time
- They over-deliver and their clients keep coming back and referring them to others
These are just a few of the reasons, and most importantly, they aren’t waiting for the phone to ring.
This is the time to be assertive and even aggressive about your business. There are excuses and there are results. Which one applies to you?
We just kicked off our 11-week Marketing Intensive and 11-week Design Mastermind Programs, and the sessions begin in early September. If you need answers and solutions – this is an investment in yourself that will pay off. Here is a link to sign up for our August 26th Preview Calls for the two programs. We’ll share the details, answer your questions and even give a scholarship for each program on each call.
