Interior Design Industry Faces Major Challenges

8

Interior Designer, Faith Sheridan, shared this article with me and I spent days thinking about it.  I just posted a reply and hopefully it will be approved by Monday.

This is a controversial topic that deserves thought and input from all of us in the industry.  Thank you, Crans, for starting a conversation that will likely spark lots of thought and debate.

Be sure and post your comments here and on Cran’s blog.  We’ll ask him for an interview after the first of the year.

I am dealing with a client right now that has problems of trust with designers based on almost every point in Cran's blog. I would love to hear more opinions on these challenges that are listed.

Please be sure and check tomorrow when my answer is posted. I'd be interested in your thoughts. I can't remember if you took the Value Based Fees series – the questions are designed to surface those issues from the beginning. Also, we really do have to adapt to the new world of the Internet. We don't have the control that we used to have as designers. Be sure and ask your friends to read the post, too. I'd love to get a good discussion going on this topic.

“Suppliers by definition can and should have no control over how designers charge their clients – or what designers charge their clients.“

I couldn`t agree more! We deal with a lot of designers here in Philly and lately it`s been quiet on the shopping from from the local IDers.

Hopefully business will pick up for the fall as it normally does. Thanks for commenting. You're always welcome to share your thoughts. I like your website, by the way. I'll be in Philadelphia on Friday for the day. I wish I could stop by and say hello. Next time.

Thanks Gail. Don't hesitate to get in touch next time, I'd be more than happy to have you in the showroom. We could even do a media rich blog post on it if the opportunity arises.
