Is Your Interior Design Firm Setting The Standard?

4

I have to admit, I’m a bit of a Seth Godin fanatic.  In fact, I look forward to every single post that I have delivered to my email by RSS feed (automatically sends me his latest post…you can sign up for our feed with the little orange button on the right of the blog).

What I love about one of last week’s posts is his view about defining the market.  It’s all about changing the game.  One of the most important ways of doing this is by naming your services or your products.  Come up with something catchy and relevant, and it will be memorable (assuming your service or product is as good as you think it is).

Are you in an interior design class by yourself?

What's your WOW factor?

The challenge for you?  Define your brand and your message.  Name your products and services.  Shoot for being exceptionally great at a few things instead of marginally good at several things.

Don’t lose sight of your client’s WIFM quotient (that’s what’s in it for me).  If you’re defining your business based on the results you produce…and they’d better be terrific these days…you’ll find that business will come to you more easily.

What do you think?  Be sure and tell us about what you’re doing to set the standard.  Let’s see who has the most creative ideas.

Define your WOW factor…and give it a name

One of the ways I am setting the standard is by always trying to remember that design work is FUN for most of my female clients — so I make sure they are enjoying the process, as well as the result. Also, it's a business that benefits from the personal touch, so, in addition to my efforts online, I also make sure to talk to people in the line at the bank, the department store, or the grocery store. If I talk to anyone for two or three minutes, I always make sure to leave them my card. I've gotten more than one job from a casual conversation!

That's a great way to get business, Natalie. It's easy to get so wrapped up in the work of what we do that even we forget to have fun. Focusing on making it fun for your clients is really important. Keep the ideas coming!

Great post Gail. Seth is an addiction of mine as well and all the brand talk is spot on. Even Google is catering there ranking factors with a brand factor which has really thrown people for a loop.

I'd like to know more about the “brand factor.” I'll ask my web guru friends.
