isolation and too much information are key issues right now!! Nice topic choice!

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing. That's what we've been hearing from many of you. Looking forward to the call.

  • Jacqueline

    Hi Gail,
I agree…too much information!! Too many things to be “taken care of” and changed at once. Need to restructure business, including contract, all forms, all bookkeeping (just bought Quickbooks and now looking at Studio Webware (!!)), starting blog, facebook & twitter but can't figure out how to add posts to Facebook & Twitter from iphone. So much to do I don't have time to get a new client!! I feel like I have aaaaaalmost all the information I need but never quite enough to get things done quickly, in a straightforward and efficient way. Time management is very difficult. Learning curve is much, much steeper than I hoped for. Time, time, time!!

I hear you, Jacqueline! There's more info every day…

  • Amy

    Ditto Jacqueline! She nailed it!

It can get confusing. It can take more time to land a big project but the smaller ones you take in the meantime can be draining. I am anxious to hear some new ideas and feel empowered!

I am looking forward to helping you! “See” you on the call…

I agree with everyone – I am currently on sensory overload. I am feeling overwhelmed and concerned that I am being left behind because of all of the technology. I have had to stop myself from multi tasking because I am becoming very, very forgetful. There just must be a way to find calm and peace so that the really important parts of my business can be accomplished so when I leave my desk, I will feel satisfied with the day.

I am also a little concerned with the economy not coming back. I have expierenced two major setbacks – Katrina and now the economy. I just got a new client (they are few and far in between right now), and I am very concerned about pricing the job. Everyone seems to be staying frugal because they do not know what the future holds as far as the economy.

So, this is a great time to revamp my business but I really cannot afford the whole shabang, need direction, etc. Thanks for listening!

Hi Darnel, you're definitely not alone. I have some strategies for you. Mindset is crucial and we'll talk about that this evening.

I loved the comment of your husband, about “I do what I have to do and what I want to do and nothing else”. What wisdom! My biggest stress is due to the fact that I do not have a system in place for completing projects, I always worry about stuff falling through the cracks. So I'm taking some time each day for the next week to outline some procedures so that I have a guide for everything that I do and I can just check off the steps. Thanks for your insights.

Terrific. That's usually what we need to do is document and that helps us fix the problem. So glad you enjoyed his comment. Here are a couple of other great comments, “You have to see yourself as you want to be,” and “you havce to sell yourself first on what it is that you want to achieve – sell yourself on your dream.”

I really thought your webinar was very mind provoking. Thank you for the invitation. As usual, right before I tuned in, I was rushing home from my office after multi tasking – so this really, really hit home. I also caught myself twice while listening to the webinar looking at notes on something else. This really has to stop because it is affecting my memory big time! I am planning on making a schedule first thing in the morning of what I have to do during the day. I will then figure out what line of importance each task should take and concentrate only one task at a time. My weekends will be only for my personal life.

Hello Darnel – the idea is to help you focus and accomplish amazing things…let me know your big AHAs after you have time to process the information.

Thank you for hosting that great webinar and for sharing such insightful information. My AHA moment was when you talked about the rewards for holding on to the roadblocks and noted that there is a perverse reward for being stuck. This has been an issue of mine for some time and I need to work on it now.
    Thanks for the enlightenment.

Thank you for hosting that great webinar and for sharing such insightful information with us. My biggest AHA moment was when you talked about one of the rewards for holding on to your roadblocks is… that there is a perverse reward for being stuck. I can relate to this as this has been an issue of mine for some time now. I will need to work on it to overcome the obstacle. Thanks for the enlightenment.

I wondered if anyone would find that interesting. Just the awareness from the exercises yesterday should get you past some of the issues you're struggling with. I work on these things myself.

  • Jacqueline

Well, I hate to write this out loud but your comment about using the “not enough information” point as an excuse for not making a decision really hit home. Sometimes you just have to jump in & I tend to want to get ALL the facts before I do something. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.

Marlene, and anyone else at this point, I am desperate to start getting all my systems, procedures and forms created properly and would love to compare notes, brainstorm or share tips on that. I think it's one of our absolutely BIGGEST challenges to get all those basics right so that we ARE able to delegate work to an employee but also just to make things move more quickly day to day without making mistakes. Tracking projects, tracking billable hours per client, tracking office hours for marketing, etc., tracking progress on orders or custom pieces, contracts, purchase orders, customer lists, resources in the office, etc. It all needs to be done right the first time. Is it with Quickbooks? Excel? Studio IT or Webware? Working on my own, I really need some input, I think, from others about this. Anyone interested?

  • http://www.designsuccessu.com Gail Doby

Hello Jacqueline. Congratulations! Knowing our own mental games is the first step in setting them aside. I'd recommend Studio Webware…by far the best streamlining software for our industry. Learning to understand the person's job from their perspective if you're delegating is very important. Write down a process you need to document at the top of a piece of paper. Schedule one process per week that you will document and get it written or process mapped using something like bubbl.us. It is vital to schedule this time. It is a pain at the beginning, and well worth the saved time in the end (and stress). Keep us posted on your progress.

  • JacquelineR

    Hi Gail,
Thank you for those tips. Mapping systems is daunting to me. I appreciate any other advice you can give or even examples to illustrate. What is bubble.us? I like the point about understanding a job from the person's perspective that you are delegating TO. Thank you!

  • http://www.designsuccessu.com Gail Doby

Hi Jacqueline, If you think of mapping systems like taking a trip…you are putting the major cities and towns in between on the map. If you look at the process of expediting a job. The end result is delivering the furniture to a client. What are the steps in between? Each one is a bubble on the diagram to get to that delivery. It's just a visual representation of the process or road map. When you are delegating, it is important to have a well-mapped process to give to someone, and then make sure they have all of the information they need and that if they are stuck, they feel comfortable asking for more information. As a delegator, it is our responsibility to make sure the message is understood and that we help the other person be successful. I hope that helps.

My biggest AHA moment during the webinar was that I did not have to look at my emails first thing in the am. This is what I have been doing so I was surprised when Gail said that we should not be checking on them first thing. I feel that there are too many invitations to keep up with all of the technology and I am afraid that if I sign up for all, there will be too much time spent and wasted. I want to streamline everything so that my time is spent on the most important aspect of my business – the client/job.

  • http://www.designsuccessu.com Gail Doby

Hello Darnel, we all struggle to do the things that really matter to the bottom line of our business and the client satisfaction, but it is easy to get distracted with reacting vs. proacting. Decide what drives client satisfaction and do that first. It's always the right choice. If you have employees, focus on what you need to provide to them to do their best job for you. Always think about what you give out first, and what drives your economic engine. Thank you for sharing your AHAs.
