Business Mastery Membership
“Everything, I love everything! Best thing I ever did was to join this membership. It is like having a professional family of people you can learn from. One of the biggest benefits I’ve received since being a Business Mastery Member is the new friends I’ve made. I know that I am not the only one that is struggling out there, and I’ve learned new tricks of the trade from seasoned designers. The DSU Business Mastery Membership is priceless and you can’t afford to not be without it. Prior to becoming a member, I felt like my business was all over the map and had no sense of direction. There are many coaches out there, but there is really only one true expert for interior designers and that is Gail and Erin at DSU. Thanks to their Business Mastery Membership, my business is more grounded which has helped me gain new clients and increase my income.” – Lynn Myers, Harmony Interiors, Frisco, CO
“Honestly, the cost per month is something I have considered dropping, just because of trying to cut expenses, but I kept it this year because I felt I needed a jolt to keep motivated and inspired. It isn’t one specific thing, but I have learned something from each thing offered.” – Diana S. Walker
“The value for the dollar is pretty outstanding. There are plenty of other “gurus” who charge more than Gail and Erin do for far less content. We get content chock full of useful information on a regular basis. The added benefit is this information is tailored to the design industry and not just “creative entrepreneurs” in general. These experts have been there. They have a unique understanding of our business because it’s their own.” – Lauren Corbyn
“I first became aware of Gail Doby and Design Success University from Ava Living. Gail was presenting an Internet seminar with twelve speakers in the design industry. The insights into the business of design, and advice on how I could change my business to move up to the next level were invaluable to me. I have expanded my methods of networking, and am applying the advice to my business practice. Now I look at my design business with a totally different view. The classes and interviews with professionals in the design industry are so full of information that I listen to them often and I have downloaded them onto my Iphone, so whenever I have a free moment I listen to a session.” Ernie Roth, Roth Interiors Inc., Los Angeles, CA
“Practicing primarily residential design in a midsize city, I have always experienced a ‘guardedness’ among my design peers when it came to sharing information on business practices. I became a Business Mastery Member after signing up for my first Design Summit because I wanted to continue having exposure to the completely candid information that other people in the design community were sharing through this venue. I have learned valuable information that I continue to use to build my business. The type of networking and knowledge sharing that the Business Mastery Membership offers continues to build my confidence in how I interface with clients. I highly recommend this to anyone who works alone or runs their own design business.” – Robin Muto, Positive Environments, Rochester, NY
“Since becoming a Business Mastery Member of Design Success University in 2008, I have no longer felt like a “sole” proprietor. With DSU’s support, I have been able to achieve new leaps and bounds in my email newsletter, the start of our Blog, and most importantly the way I approach my business. Before DSU we were “sales” focused, and now we’ve become “service” focused, which has attracted more of the right kind of clients to us! DSU’s targeted, relevant and informative Monthly Mentor calls allow me an opportunity for support when is convenient for me; without having to attend an event or lecture, and in the privacy of my own home, office, or on my iPod. I can listen to the calls over and over again, reinforcing the ACTIONS I need to take in my business. The best thing about DSU is the tremendous support and camaraderie I feel as being part of a global community of designers, who are all going through the same trials, tribulations, and successes that we are. Having been members of other professional organizations, I can say without a doubt that DSU has helped my business more in the short year I’ve been a member, than in over 15 years of experience in the field. I can’t recommend membership enough, it’s become a vital part of Nirmada.” – Kati Curtis, Nirmada Interior Design, NY, NY
“Run, don’t walk- our industry is rapidly changing and this is the place to learn strategies to adapt.”– Faith Sheridan, Seattle, WA
“I like the availability and consistency best of the Business Mastery Membership. This has been a particularly difficult year. Although I had large projects that were completed mid-year, the last part of this year has left me struggling to rekindle the business. Without the constant motivation and attention to evaluate where I was spending my time and money, I might have been unable to progress forward and take action on marketing ideas as quickly. Having ability to tap into something outside my local peer group, ASID, and other groups to address specifics has been one of the biggest benefits of membership.” – Diana S. Walker, Diana S. Walker Interior Design, Houston, TX
“The three biggest benefits I’ve experienced since being a Business Mastery Member – it has opened my mind to new ideas of marketing my business. I have a clearer vision of what I want the business to become. It is giving me some new things to think about and the tools for going forward. I’d tell other interior designers that are considering investing in the Business Mastery Membership that you have taught me the importance of having a specific business direction, the support to get started in that direction. This has led me to focus on re-branding my business for the New Year and to go forward from there.” – Kathryn Dillon, Custom Creations, Marietta, GA
Value Based Fees
“I have learned how to handle questions about my fees from difficult clients. I’ve learned how to begin research into my business in consideration of a fixed fee billing. And yes, I’d enthusiastically recommend this series to my peers.” – Sharon Olsen, Designer’s Edge Kitchen, Bath & Interior Design
This has been an extremely valuable class for me. I have been charging flat fees for quite some time now, but at least half would turn into “indentured servant” situations with clients who just couldn’t understand what I’ve done for them. This class has helped me go from the mindset of “I’m just going to quit this business” to “perhaps I can make money doing what I love!” And I’ve also come to accept that someone saying I’m too expensive isn’t a bad thing!” Amy Wolff, C.I.D.
“I needed help with putting a value to my name. I learned that it is important to set a fee before the work is done, and I also liked the discussion about the mark-up of items. I’d enthusiastically recommend this series to my peers.” – Anne Simmons, Anne Simmons Designs, Hickory, NC
“The whole marketplace for Interior Designers is changing. I want to stay current and competitive with existing and potential clients, yet offer them as many products and services as possible. Value Based Fees make both ends of the equation a win-win. I learned the value of charging clients on a Value Fee Basis. Every Designer I have spoken to about how they charge seems to come up with a different answer, many of which I didn’t feel comfortable about integrating into my business practices. This system seems to make the most sense but requires intensive tracking to be able to integrate into a method of billing. I was pleasantly surprised with this last series of talks on Value Based Design. It was reassuring to learn that even Vicente Wolfe has problems with clients and to listen and learn how he deals with these same issues.” – Trish Johnson, Trish Johnson Interiors, LLC, Delafield, WI
“I’ve recently been hearing a lot about value based fees but did not know how to approach it. I now feel confident that I can charge this way and will definitely be implementing it with my next new client. I learned A LOT and have been reviewing everything so that I may implement it in the future. Presently, the only thing I am implementing consistently is having “process”. I think about it each time I have to do a new form or file something new. I’d enthusiastically recommend this class.” – Rosa Dest, Rosa Dest Interior Designs, Charlotte, NC
“Knowing how to charge and for what has always been an issue that has never been comfortable. The Value Based Fees series seemed like a system to invest in. I’d enthusiastically recommend the series.” – – Kathy Miller, West Majinney Interiors, Lakewood, CO
Mastermind
“This whole DSU mastermind series came at a crucial time in my business growth. I have learned so much and made three friends along the way! I have been in several masterminds with other professionals, but not other designers. I like that we could participate in a non-competitive environment. I’d enthusiastically recommend the Design Mastermind Series. You can share the struggles you are experiencing and you will learn from the struggles that your peers share as well. I had the ability to speak and share freely with other designers and it would not happen in my own town. Because we were from different parts of the country, there was no concern about competition, so everyone was generous with their advice.” Tami Smight, Tami Smight Interiors, Valencia, CA
“Since I am new to the business and work alone, I wanted to have the support of other designers. It was great to be in the hot seat. I think I feel better about the challenges I have had and to know that even experienced designers have the same ones. Absolutely join the DSU Design Mastermind Program, I enthusiastically recommend it. I feel better about myself and my abilities I see a future in my business I now have direction, and before I was all over the place. The Mastermind program is at the top of my list of DSU’s best programs. The whole team had many great ideas and I was very lucky that Gail attended the call. I lucked out with the individuals in my group…they were very supportive and not judgmental.” Diane Bartalotti, DB Interior Design, El Cerrito, CA
“I need to be held accountable for my actions and a mastermind group seemed to be the best way to do it. Your business seems to be aligned with my personality, and I figured you would attract like people in the design industry. I thought I would try this. The other group members suggested how I should interview Virtual Assistants. They also gave me confidence to proceed with my business ideas. I’d enthusiastically recommend the DSU Mastermind program. The three biggest things I learned through the DSU Mastermind: knowing there are others out there that I can call for help. Being held accountable for what I say I’m going to accomplish. Being able to discuss the Marketing Intensive with my peers.” – Randy Trainor, C Randolph Trainor Interiors, Brookfield, NH
“I wanted help to improve my business, get marketing ideas and suggestions and increase my Internet presence and methods with an emphasis on the Internet marketing. I also want to stay closer with current and past clients current. You never know when you are needed! Networking is a key factor. We are seeing some great results. The series was very good and it has been very beneficial and well worth the time and money! I established some great new relationships with my group with whom we will stay in touch.” Joan Sharpe, Sharpe Interiors, Inc., Virginia Beach, VA
“I’m fairly new to the design business and felt like I needed extra support. I wanted to access this great group of like-minded design entrepreneurs that had formed around DSU. As the economy has changed and clients are fewer and farther between, my group has helped each other gain a renewed pro-activity. For me specifically, when I’m not working on a design project, I’m working on myself as a project. The group has been so great to help break issues down to doable, fixable, pieces. I’ve had the roughest time of my entire business while the group has been going. It’s been really inspirational to have them to check in with each week. My energy and inspiration is renewed after each call. I’d enthusiastically recommend the DSU Design Mastermind series. I feel like I’m really part of the design community. I’m not alone and I feel like there are women around the country who are willing to help me. Also that even though I’m new to this industry, I provide value to my group as well. I also now have specific experienced designers I can turn to when I have a question. We all came to the group with a sense of sharing and helpfulness and I think that feeling will continue between us.” – Lauren Corbyn, Lauren Corbyn Interiors, Oklahoma City, OK
“I wanted to be with like-minded individuals, who are looking to grow their business. It felt good to be with others during these tough times. It cut out the isolation I was feeling and supported me with hope. The DSU Mastermind Series is about shared experiences and support. I can now take my business to another level. I was inspired by another designer in the group who has a studio with an assistant and another designer who works in my niche. I also feel less isolated. Sharing wins for the week and the ability to share my experience with others who are just starting out is really rewarding!” – Mary Beth Haggerty, The Drawing Room Interior Design, Byfield, MA
“I joined the DSU Design Mastermind Series to connect with other designers and learn from each other. During our calls, I learned marketing ideas and that I’m not charging enough. I now have more tools to use.” – Randi DeStefano, R. K. Designs, Atlanta, GA
“I invested in the DSU Design Mastermind Series after I spoke with Gail. It sounded like the series would be helpful to me. I would enthusiastically recommend this series to my peers. TAKE IT! The three biggest benefits I’ve experienced are the knowledge, support and friendship.” – Mary Whitaker, Whitaker Design Associates, Dacula, GA
“I wanted to see what other designers were doing to generate business and what was working and what wasn’t. I realized that no matter where a person is in life we all are faced with similar challenges of staying ahead and wanted to just have “business”. We are all in different phases of where we are at and yet we all have similar concerns. Would I recommend this series to my peers? Yes, it was very good. By being in a national and regionally diverse area. It takes away the competitiveness that one would feel if you knew you wanted to be better than them in your market area alone. The three biggest things I learned? New goal setting, priority of tasks, inspired to know that I am still doing as good of a job in how I think about my business as other designers throughout the country.” – Angela DeYoung, Designs by DeYoung, LLC, Nashville, TN
“I invested in the DSU Mastermind Series because I wanted to know how other interior designers handle things. I specifically got help with contract information. I would enthusiastically recommend this series to my peers. It’s so nice to be a part of a group that understands. The three biggest benefits include the support, friendship and knowing I can pick up the phone any time and the other members will be there to help.” – Terrie Hall, Design the Hall-Way, Parker, CO
“I was looking for new marketing ideas and inspiration to move my business forward. It was great to have people to bounce ideas off of and it gave me the extra nudge when I needed it. I am planning to send out my newsletter next week which was one of my main objectives when I started this program. The three biggest benefits I received from being a part of the Mastermind Series include making myself accountable for what I schedule, thinking outside of the box and learning to budget the time a project is going to take more efficiently.” – Debbie Jacobs, Debbie Jacobs Designs, Gainesville, GA
“I have always been self employed and therefore have not had an opportunity to know how others “really do it”. I gained most of my information through books and really on my instincts. Overall I would say it was a positive experience. I did enjoy the relationships. I would recommend this series to my peers – it was very good. It is important to be open-minded, openly discuss your own problems and I would stress the importance of participation. I am more confident in the way I run my business. I have a better sense of humor about all the crazy clients we can have and how typical problems with suppliers can be.” – Robin Muto – Positive Environments, Rochester, NY
Marketing Intensive
“I invested in the Marketing Intensive Series because I knew I needed help in modernizing my marketing and growing my business. The three biggest benefits I’ve experienced since being a part of the Marketing Intensive Series include web design, written marketing plan and focusing on my messaging. The series was very good and I would do it absolutely. It was very helpful. It affirmed what I do and refined it and opened me to new ways of thinking.” – Patti Snyder, Snyder Design Group, Billings, MT
“The classes that have been very helpful to me are Value Based Fees and marketing on the Internet. Your classes and information are really helpful.” – Patti Snyder, Snyder Design Group, Billings, MT
“I have been trying to find out what I wanted to do when my business “grew up”. Having been in the interior design business for over 20 years, I couldn’t figure out what made me different from others in my field and in my area. Through you and the others you have had on the Interior Design Summits, I have figured out what I want to do and how to market this idea. Now I have a specific focus and everything has seemed to fall more easily into place. The three biggest benefits I’ve experienced since being a part of the Marketing Intensive Series – 1) Receiving information pertinent to my business 2) Sharing information (with the Mastermind Group) and having conversations with others in the Marketing Intensive Series. 3) Being able to access the recordings when I am able. Mostly I download them to a CD and listen to them in my car. I enthusiastically recommend this series.” – Randy Trainor, C Randolph Trainor Interiors, Brookfield, NH
“I have a new business and was having a difficult time finding clients. To be honest I had a hard time digesting the information. There was just so much, which I do appreciate. I found that I have some holes to fill, so I am starting at the beginning, e.g. focus on a type of client. What I learned was that branding is not just a logo and business card. I also learned how important social media is and how to use it. It changed my mind about “sales.” It does not have to be pressured sales. This series was very good.” – Diane Bartalotti, DB Interior Design, El Cerrito, CA
“I wanted it to move me forward in my marketing ventures. Unfortunately, I still haven’t done what I wanted to do: start a blog, do the monthly marketing sheet and follow up. Follow-up with leads. I think because it takes so much time to just run the business, learn about social marketing, etc. I’ll listen to the time management video tomorrow, I think that’s what I really need to be able to do it all!” – Susan Moss
When we surveyed our members about what they had learned through DSU that they hadn’t gotten anywhere else, here’s what they said…
I have received excellent information from DSU that is specific to the Design industry. Not a broad range that I would have to try and adapt.” – Debbie Jacobs, Debbie Jacobs Designs, Gainesville, GA
“The exposure to so many experts, it is pretty difficult to get elsewhere, definitely not in other design programs.” Diane Bartalotti, DB Interior Design, El Cerrito, CA
“When we are in business, we don’t always see things from perspectives other than our own. This has helped me to look at all aspects of my business.” – Randy Trainor, C Randolph Trainor Interiors, Brookfield, NH
“That you have taught me the importance of having a specific business direction, the support to get started in that direction. This has led me to focus on re-branding my business for the New Year and to go forward from there.”– Kathryn Dillon
“I’ve gotten priceless information from: how to market my business to keeping my afloat during these tough economic times. I feel like I have a family that I can depend on and that has helped me survive the start of a fairly new business and has consistently given me the tools and confidence to survive through these tough economic times.” – Lynn Myers, Harmony Interiors, Frisco, CO
“I Learned about Michael Port’s “Book Yourself Solid” from one of my mastermind members. I have learned a lot from that book. I gained confidence in my design fee structure as well as mark up on furniture purchases.” – Tami Smight
“None of this is taught in design programs and it should be!” – Diane Bartalotti, DB Interior Design, El Cerrito, CA
“The most useful information has definitely been the discussion on Value Based Fees and contracts and also getting the “systems” in place to manage my business more effectively and therefore free up time for the creative work.” – Robin Muto – Positive Environments, Rochester, NY
“Studio IT information…I definitely want to try it. Flat fee ideas, although I’m still not comfortable with trying it yet.” – Terrie Hall, Design the Hall-Way, Parker, CO
“We all have the same challenges in our businesses no matter where we are located.” – Mary Whitaker, Whitaker Design Associates, Dacula, GA
“I have enjoyed the Internet leaps that I have made in a very short period of time with having this in my arsenal of information.” – Angela DeYoung, Designs by DeYoung, LLC, Nashville, TN
“Frontline actions, direct examples, to dos, books and web resources.” – Faith Sheridan, Seattle, WA
“The most useful information has definitely been the discussion on fees and contracts, and also getting the ‘systems’ in place to manage my business more effectively and therefore free up time for the creative work. “Always a pleasure” – Mary Beth Haggerty, The Drawing Room Interior Design, Byfield, MA

I have always been self employed and therefore have not had an opportunity to know how others ‘really do it.’ I gained most of my information through books and really on my instincts. Connecting with real live people (not books) has been of great value.” – Robin Muto, Positive Environments, Rochester, NY

Interior Design Summits
“You did a fabulous job gathering experts in many areas that make the difference between success and…not so much success for designers. It was like an electronic “Encyclopedia Britannica” for interior designers!” – Anne Lubner
Thank you for putting together such a well-rounded group of speakers for your 2008 Design Summit. It was so convenient and affordable and allowed all of the designers in our office to listen to the lectures. There is no way our firm could have afforded sending all of our designers to a summit like this. You rounded up such a wide range of speakers and subjects. We have gleaned several great ideas to get our business moving again in this tough economy and some great reminders of how to connect with our clients. Thanks so much! - Barbara Hyde Evans – www.hydeevansdesign.com
“Wow! I am not sure how I discovered Design Success University and the Interior Design Summit but I sure am glad that I did. You have been such an inspiration to me and to my company. This past year has certainly been a transition year for my company to move in a more focused direction and to learn more about ourselves, the marketing, and the way that design marketing is changing in the process. As for the speakers and their knowledge from the Fall Summit, I have listened to them many times, to give me the extra knowledge or purpose that I need to take my marketing and my company to a different level. THANKS so much to your team and to your excellent resources for the incredible knowledge that you are willing to share! I am signed up for the upcoming March Summit and try to participate in all of the other opportunities that are available to us through DSU.” – Cumby Hammock-Cobb, Cumby’s Interiors, www.CumbysInteriors.com
The Interior Design Summit was incredible for me. At the time I was working for company as a staff kitchen designer and that company needed ideas for marketing. I am now using the ideas to market myself as that company laid off half of us in December. I am in the process of redesigning me and using the social networks: Facebook, LinkedIn and Ava Living. I finally understand how to use these things. I learned it was more important to be yourself than any preconceived idea of “how an interior design is”. I have met some incredible people and have been able to share the ideas from the Summit with other designers. I cannot say enough about the Summit, I did not learn this in college! Thank you – Jennifer Crawford
“The last summit was really amazing, we heard information from speakers we have never seen offered at other design conferences. Top it off with the fact we listened to them while we were putting together concepts for a big project in the convenient location of our office and you have a perfect combination. We could continue our work while educating ourselves with subjects that are of the utmost importance to the progress of our industry.” – Laurel Quint
“Awesome summit! So many great topics and meaty content. thank you!” - Kathleen Ellis
“The sheer breadth of quality presentations and information still exhilarates me months later. You skillfully selected outstanding presenters not heard in typical design seminars. Each presentation offered information useful immediately. I especially appreciated the daily notes from each presentation which I placed in a binder for reference. I highly recommend participation.” – Faith Sheridan, ASID
“Gail before our call my head was swimming from all the information from the Summit, thank you for helping me to organize those thoughts and creating an Action List. I am very excited and hopeful for the New Year!” Mary Beth Haggerty
“My brain is on overload and my heart is full! The Summit was a little like a retreat experience. You included information that is simply not taught in design schools.I want to say thank you for all that you both put into this endeavor. Not only are you knowledgeable in our industry, but you seem to really know what is important. As much as I am impressed by the content of the Summit, I am impressed by the consistent theme of authenticity, genuineness, relating to people, giving back to the community, and building relationships and trust.“- Joey LaSalle
“You should be celebrating… the Interior Design Summit is awesome!!!! You obviously have worked hard to assemble so many experts on the calls. I am totally inspired! This is the perfect formula to keep all designers motivated and booked with appointments. Also, I have found the recordings extremely valuable – I have them on my iPod and listen whenever I need a refresher or some instant motivation.”- Marie Mouradian, Window Designs Etc., Massachusetts
“A takeaway for everyone in every area I was inspired, excited, and full of energy to get going and raise my level of business again. You could call the Design Summit the Wikipedia of how to run a design business – all the nuts and bolts from beginning to end. I loved the design summit. It was worth every penny, and I look forward to attending the next one.” – Erica Cooper, Your Style reDesigned, Inc., Minneapolis
“Attending the Interior Design Summit last fall was life changing for me. While initially I was on information overload, I have taken steps to connect with some of the featured speakers, taken their advice and have implemented these new ideas into my business. First, I did not know that half of the information that I got from the first Summit was even out there, second it has forced me to look at my business from a totally different perspective. The biggest impact was getting more comfortable with marketing…this summit empowered me to step of out my comfort zone and to reach new goals beyond my imagination (write a book)!” – Mary Beth Haggerty
“I am so happy and excited that I made the decision to participate in the first Interior Design Summit! The speakers were great, and the information they gave us was priceless. So many avenues have opened up since then, and so many possibilities are on the horizon. I can’t wait to attend Interior Design Summit 2!!!” Randi Destefano, ASID, CAPS
“I attended the Fall Interior Design Summit. I got so many ideas…I’ve been in business for over 30 years and I found that what you offered is valuable for any level of designer.” Susannah West
Quick Start
“First I want to thank you for being so generous with your time by staying on line until all of the course material was covered. I learned so much. I can’t wait until I listen to the recording to reabsorb all of the information you provided. By the way, I just responded yes to my area business women’s networking luncheon for the first time! I am on fire in so many areas and I have you both to thank. I am making use of all the webinars I can. Thanks so much!” – KBow Designs, LLC Montclair, VA
“It was an excellent presentation, well worth the time and the way more value than the expense incurred. We appreciated your help in getting us the docs so quickly so we could fully participate. Warmly,” – Anne Morrissey
“Love, love, love the magazine and postcard ideas. Will definitely be taking that away for use.” – Lynn Myers, Harmony Interiors, Colorado
“I can’t believe how profitable marketing can be!!!! I have been so pleased just to have a “referral only” business for 12 years… but I started 2009 looking to move to a much higher level!! I will follow your advice to work on marketing EACH DAY!! I LOVE having a mentor as of today!”:o) Tamara Catania, DesignWorks Interiors, Centreville, VA
“What a wonderful webinar – more info than I could have ever imagined. I have a lot of work to do – I am so amazed by the wealth of information shared – I am very thankful for all your work in putting all of this together to help me grow my business.” Linda Sluiter, Interior Artistry
“This was a great review for analyzing, how seemingly small changes, can make a huge impact on the time I work and the income attached to that time. I also can see how adjusting focus on smart marketing will open up more time to enjoy life. I have made a transition, in my business to being more involved in remodeling and because the subs have been billing directly for their services, I have been adding a project management fee. I have been learning, the hard way, my fee is not making me feel “happy” about some of the time I am having to spend to get everyone else organized. I need to figure out how to calculate for a higher level of compensation. This is sometimes more difficult because it’s different from working with materials, which clients tend to associate more directly with interior designers – ie. window treatments, furniture, etc. Always happy for tips for evaluating better methods for billing. (I can tell clients have been watching “hours” so I have been trying to figure out things on more of a “per project” basis.)” – Wanda Horton
“I always scared to charge too much or not enough, so this gives me a great starting point to experiment with and then I can adjust as suggested. Wow, it is amazing to see how much you can really make if you stick with a system.” – Lynn Myers, Harmony Interiors, Frisco, CO
“I’ve been asking my accountants for YEARS how to track “how am I doing?” and “How can I use my time more wisely” from year to year… and not getting answers I can use. I work very hard (and interestingly, exactly about 1,000 hrs. of billable time per year!) so these Excel sheets you have demonstrated today are going to be exactly what I need to answer that question!!! I am THRILLED, to say the least. (And I may need a different accountant, possibly??) And I now know that I am a “normal” designer! (In terms of what I have been making salary wise and production-wise). Thank you for clarifying so much related to the “business of design” because that is the piece of the puzzle I’ve been missing!” Tamara Catania, DesignWorks Interiors, Centreville, VA
“You just helped me prioritize my goals… One of the first will now be putting together a budget. I never really put it down and now realize how important it is to visualize everything. I’m hoping that I can pull out all the information from Quickbooks (I’ve been using it for about 10 yrs).” Deb, Design Resources, Hinsdale, IL
“Wow, I never really understood how to pay myself…still not sure if I understand it yet, but at least you ladies have given me a place to start and some things to think about.” – Daisy Stroud, Interiors by Daisy Stroud
“Wow, I’m spending way too much time on $10/hr work. Wow, my mark up is way too low. Wow, I need to know a good way to raise my hourly rate!” – Julianne
“THE SPREADSHEET IS AWESOME – I cannot believe how much work Gail put in to this. It will really be a tremendous help.” – Cathy Rowe, Well Dressed Interiors
“Best take-away is the Business Dashboard Form!” – Debbie Jacobs, Debbie Jacobs Designs, Interior Design, Ltd., Gainesville, GA
“Wow, you have made this so clear. I’m excited to start using the concepts. I especially like the percentage of sales suggestions.” – Jill
“I MUST start OUTSOURCING more!! Thank you so much Gail for the great spreadsheets – they are fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” – Lori Scholz
“My Gosh Gail, Let me say WOW again. Thank you so much for all the wonderful information we received about budgeting and how tweaking your design rates can really increase your profits.” – Donna Burns
“I had suspected that emails were taking way too much time… but this was great to hear that I CAN wait till later in the day to answer them!!
) I’ve been “busy” but not nearly as productive as I know I can be. I’m very very pleased to take today’s class… and get SPECIFIC answers to my needs that no one else has been able to provide. I had no idea I was spending my valuable time on the wrong areas of my business that seem to be so important. Thanks so much!” – Tamara Catania, DesignWorks Interiors, Centreville, VA
My eye open moment was why do I spend my valuable time return samples, when I could be making money at a meeting with a client? I always thought of using a messenger as spending funds foolishly, but now I realize what a waste of time it is.” – Deborah Getta, Hinsdale, IL
“So much of what you have covered has been relevant to my style of running my business. However, the most valuable point I have learned is to give up multi-tasking. I have always had the perception that if I am multi-tasking I am being more productive. I also really appreciated the points on qualifying your clients. I realize now if I had this in place there are probably a few jobs I would have never taken on and saved myself a lot of aggravation.” – Jennifer Ciliberto, Impressions Home Interiors
“The time management ideas – they’re so simple, but really were AHA’s! for me. And the idea of outsourcing is such a great idea as well!!!!! I can’t wait to hear the audio on that.” – Cathy Rowe, WELL DRESSED INTERIORS
“The various components and priorities of setting up the business are much clearer to me know. The parts are starting to fall into place! Thanks!” – Sandy Hare, Dr. Design Home Staging and Redesign
“I really like the blueprint worksheets, I can see where this will force me (in a good way) to stay focused and on track for my goals. I’m guilty about flying by the seat of my pants/skirt.”- Trisha Crafts, Sundowner Interiors
“The idea of clustering time is a great reinforcement of how to prevent time from being so fragmented. It helps to be more proactive instead of reactive.” – Wanda Horton
“I keep a weekly calendar. When I filled out the monthly calendar worksheet, it gave me a better indication of what I am doing to grow my business on a sustained effort. (It was exciting!)” – Karen Bow
