I’ve been where you are.  I didn’t set out to be an interior designer.

You may have heard my story before, and for those who have, bear with me for just a few minutes.

What’s uniquely different about me is my finance and banking degree combined with an interior design degree, with over 20 years running my own successful interior design business.

I have 35 years of business experience with my first job being sales and marketing with a Fortune 500 company in the home furnishings industry. I called on architects and designers starting in 1977.

My job was to prepare a commercial space in a ridiculously short amount of time and orchestrate a seamless move without team downtime over the New Years weekend.

During the same time, my friends started hiring me to help them shop for furnishings, hang art, select paint colors and accessories.

I moved to Denver in 2000, and shortly after I moved here, I got married, and then a friend flew me to Cleveland to help her pull her house together in 4 days. I returned to Denver and told my husband it was time to go to design school. I was working full time for myself throughout my degree program.

Within 2 years of graduation in 2006, I had my first magazine cover. And two years later, I moved into a swanky, expensive office in the center of Cherry Creek. By the year 2000, I had 7 employees, and we did nearly $900,000 in revenue…and then 9.11 happened.

I hated what my business had become, so 9/11’s impact on my business allowed me to downsize gradually. I went solo again by the end of 2002. Yet, after working 36 hours straight and neglecting my husband and my health, I decided to regrow my business. This time was different.

I enjoyed design again and discovered a better and more profitable way to run my business. Erin joined me in 2005, and by 2007, we attended a life-changing marketing seminar in LA. March 2008, at a live reunion event, I declared the official start of DSU. I had to figure it out how to run a successful interior design business by myself and it took years and tens of thousands of dollars of mistakes. I knew we weren’t alone, and I could see how many of my colleagues were suffering and struggling.
